About 11 years ago, my husband and I lost our third baby to miscarriage. At the time, all of the women in my small group were expecting, and while we all live in different places now, there are three little boys who spent their childhoods being the best of friends from that group.
There would have been 4.
One day in church, some months after our miscarriage, I sat surrounded by babies. Some were newborns, others-yet-to-be-borns, but none of them were mine. I closed my eyes to drown out the sights and began to wonder why it sometimes felt like God heard everyone’s prayers but mine…
