I’m glad you asked. Simply put, thanksLIVING is living with thanks…a lifestyle of thanksgiving that goes beyond one month of the year to the everyday moments of life.
And why is thanksLIVING important?
As Ann Voskamp says, “As long as thanks is possible, then joy is always possible.” I don’t know about you, but for me, 2020 hasn’t offered a lot of joy. If I’m honest, 2020 was kicking my feet out from under me BEFORE Covid-19 hit, so when the world closed down, things got even harder.
This ministry has struggled, and we’re walking with a limp, but I believe most Christians who have spent any time pursuing the Lord, fighting to hold on to Him when fear surrounds them, walk with a limp. When my focus is broad, looking at culture, elections, viruses, or educational choices, I don’t find much joy. In fact, it looks a lot like every ounce of joy has been sucked out of the world when I look at it from that level. But if I narrow my gaze a bit, and start looking a a little closer to home—the minutes instead of the hours…the right here instead of out there—I can see much to be thankful for.
- Healthy children
- Glorious fall leaves
- Strong internet connection
- Enough money to pay the bills
- Boys who still want to hug me at 13 and 15
- A husband who helps take care of our home
- The ability to do what I love, even from home
- An oldest boy who leads his baseball team in prayer before every game
- A youngest who reminds me to pray for him every night before bed
- Hot coffee
- A cool breeze
- A warm comforter to snuggle under on cold nights
I could go on. I could tell you I’m glad to have prescription sunglasses, a rescued kitten we never thought we’d want, or that my nephew got his first college football offer last weekend. I could tell you any number of things that bring me joy, all of which are a direct gift from God to me. But when I focus too hard on 2020 I miss them.
Let’s stop missing them?
Consider this my personal invitation to you to pursue a lifestyle of thanksgiving—thanksLIVING—with us starting today.
