Just this morning my kids erupted in anger around the breakfast table. I bet you’ve never had a morning like that, right? Haha!
I walked outside and watered my flowers because I had to take a time-out for myself to calm down, pray for wisdom, and seek Spirit’s help.
That time spent alone allowed God to work on my heart first. It also gave me a chance to reach out to my hubby and run some discipline ideas past him, so I made sure I wasn’t reacting out of anger but with Spirit-led wisdom. Without that time away, I would have been tempted to join in the fight, and all it would have accomplished is a yelling match.
As I prayed, these are some of the verses and ideas God brought to mind. I hope they bless you, too!
Scripture Prayers for Your Angry Child
Psalm 120:1
Father, when my child and I are angry, help us never to forget that you are with us. We can take our troubles to you and you answer.
Psalm 111:4
Father, when we are tempted to focus on all that is going wrong, please bring to mind your wonderful works and the good things you’ve already done for us.
Matthew 9:36
Father, please help me to see my angry child with your eyes. Help me to love them as you do, so I fight for them and not against them.
Psalm 4:4
Father, when we are angry please help us not to sin. Give us the wisdom to release the anger in healthy ways instead of holding on to it. Help it to draw us to you and not away.
Psalm 78:38 & 58
Father, help my child and me to realize all anger isn’t bad. It can be helpful when someone is being hurt or wronged and something needs to be done. Please calm our big emotions, help us to show mercy, and move us to action when needed.
