Raising children is hard, but I can’t imagine how difficult it must be as a single mom! What God meant to be done by two loving parents often has to be carried out by one parent. Whether you are raising your children accompanied by a spouse, or without a spouse, you can rest in the fact that God’s Word holds true in every circumstance and He is bigger than anything this sinful world will throw at you and your family.
Thoughts for Mom:
- Even though this is a big job, there is no job too big for God. What seems like an obstacle to us cannot hinder what God wants to accomplish (Jeremiah 32:17)!
- As moms, we need to be sure to regularly evaluate what is on our plate and ask God to show us what is our highest priority and what needs to go, even if just for a season (Romans 12:2).
- God gave you the children you have, and what is going on in your family is no surprise to Him. You can confidently approach Him and leave all of your circumstances at His feet (1 Peter 5:7).
- His mercy is new every morning and He will enable you to do what you are called to do (Lamentations 3:22).
How to Pray Through This:
Verse: “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day” (John 6:44).
Prayer: Father, I know You are the one that does a work in the hearts of man, and that nothing can hinder You. Draw my children into a relationship with You. May they follow You always.
Verse: “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect” (Romans 12:1-2).
Prayer: Father, I pray that my children will be totally yielded to You.
Verse: “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19).
Prayer: Father, Your word promises that You will provide all we need. Please put people in my children’s lives who will point them to You, and give them godly friendships to influence them for Your Kingdom.
Verse: “…The Lord has sought out a man after his own heart…” (1 Samuel 13:14).
Prayer: Father, I pray that You will move in the hearts of my children and create within them a desire to serve You with their whole heart. Please mature them and grow them so that they will not desire the things that the world tries to distract them with.
Romans 8:28
I knew my kids appeared to have the disadvantage. So my prayer was often for God to use this for His glory, and for my children’s best. My boys are 19and 16, and He has been so faithful!!
Amen, Trena!
