I have a tendency to spew. The first time it happened I was about 20 years old. After about six months of tension in a long time friendship, I erupted like Mount St. Helens and the relationship never recovered. It was ugly and I regret my response to her to this day. Several years later, married with children, another conflict arose between me and a friend. I got hurt and spewed my feelings at her. Then, about a year later, it happened again. Same scenario, different person. It doesn’t happen all the time, just when I’m really stressed or when I’ve let issues go on too long without addressing them. But it does happen, and each time I’m left wishing I could suck those angry emotional words right back into my heart and mouth.
