A Prayer for Letting Go of MY Kingdom

As it related to the death of her husband, Jim, and the other men killed that day, Elizabeth Elliot shared that all five wives prayed without ceasing leading up to the day they died and begged God for mercy that very day until they knew their prayers had been answered. You might read that and you might hear that and question the use of the words until their ‘prayers had been answered’ because after all, didn’t God say no to their prayers? Hadn’t they asked, begged God to bring their husbands safely home from that trip into the jungle? As relayed by Elizabeth, the missionary Amy Carmichael once said, isn’t no an answer? We just don’t like to be told no.

Today’s devotion and prayer is taken from Brooke McGlothlin’s book, Praying Mom: Making Prayer the First and Best Response to Motherhood.
