“May He equip you with every good thing to carry out His will and strengthen you [making you complete and perfect as you ought to be], accomplishing in us that which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.” Hebrews 13:21 (Amplified Bible)
There have been seasons in my life when I lost sight of my purpose and callings. It’s easy to become confused, to look at those around you (especially on social media!) and fall for the lie that everyone else has their life figured out but you.
When I began raising my daughter I was determined that she was not going to have to question her purpose in the way I had. I was sure that if we built a good relationship with her, made sure we had open communication, focused on and nurtured her gifts and abilities, and guided her carefully, what God wanted for her to do with her life would naturally fall into place. It didn’t take long to see that there was only so much we could do as her parents. The interests and passions she had in her early years changed over time. She was the kind of person that would excel in anything she tried because she worked hard at everything she did. As she reached her teen years and then into college, she became confused with what her purpose would be and what her future was supposed to look like.
In spite all of our best efforts, my daughter became confused about what God’s purpose and calling was for her.
Life is hard and is changing all the time. There is only so much we can control and we (believers) need to know the bottom line of what our purpose is here on this earth so that we can boldly and confidently persevere one day at a time. The best thing we can do for our daughters is to live with God’s purpose in view, allowing that to be our motivation for how we approach each day. Then, we can teach the same to them.
4 Verses to Pray to Help Your Daughter Be a Woman of Purpose
Love God and Obey God.
Lord, I pray that my daughter will be a woman who strives to grow in her love for You and that this love will be shown by her obedience to what You say in Your Word (John 14:15).
Know God by being in His Word.
Lord, please give my daughter the desire to know You by being in Your Word and that she will “grow in the grace and knowledge of You, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (2 Peter 3:18)
Serve and glorify God.
Lord, I pray that my daughter’s light will shine before others so that they may see Your good works and give glory to Your Father who is in Heaven (Matthew 5:16).
Point others to God.
Lord, I pray that my daughter will receive the power of the Holy Spirit and be enabled to be a witness, pointing others to You with her life and with her words (Acts 1:8).
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
Even when we walk through seasons of waiting on God or confusion about what we are supposed to do, we can persevere in the unknowns when we are sure of what our purpose on this earth is, as a believer. Are you walking in this confidence?
