Many (MANY) years ago, when my boys were very young, and I struggled to find time in God’s Word, I received a bit of “wisdom” from an older mom.
A pastor’s wife, with three grown girls, she shared with me that there were seasons in her life when all she could do was read a Proverb a day, and ask God to make it enough. I listened to her tell that story, and drank in every word. No matter how hard things were with young children, I knew I could find a few minutes to read one chapter of Proverbs every day.
That was almost 17 years ago, and since that time, I’ve put this idea into practice over and over again. In fact, I’ve done it twice in the last six months. My personal belief is that reading through the Proverbs several times a year will make me a very wise woman at the end of my days!
For the month of May, our Patreon family will be reading through the Proverbs.
But not just reading them…we’re going to allow them to inspire our prayers for our families, too! Each day, we’ll read through one chapter (chapter one on May 1, chapter two on May 2, and so on). I’m truly excited about spending this time praying God’s Word for my family. Recently, my children and I have decided to go, “back-to-the-basics,” and study again through the basics of the Christian life…the basics of wise Christian living.
What better place to do that than inside of the Proverbs?
For this study, I decided to print out the prayer calendar, along with a copy of our digital blank prayer journal, My Book of Prayers. My BOP is a substantial document, with lots of room for writing and journaling. If you print it out, and put it in a 3-ring binder, you’ll have space to journal your way through the next several months of prayer calendars. Here’s what mine looks like:
You can see that I’ve used a hole punch to get the pages ready for my 3-ring binder, and I have the prayer calendar printed out, and placed at the very front of the binder so I can refer to it easily throughout the month. One of my main goals for this prayer journal was to give you LOTS of writing space, and I think we achieved that. You can easily print it out on your home printer (like I did here), or take it to a print shop for a slightly higher quality print. It’s really up to you!
